Tackling Tough Realities: Street Gangs, the Met, and a Powerful Evening with Jo Poole
Following the success of the magnificent WIZO Rebecca Sieff Award Luncheon, Phoebe Welcome Leon WIZO kept the momentum going with an unforgettable evening event featuring a truly compelling guest speaker.
Jo Poole, who spent over 25 years in the Metropolitan Police, joined us to share insights from her time on the frontline of Operation Trident, the Met’s taskforce tackling gun crime and gang violence in London. With candour, humour and moments of real gravity, Jo gave us a window into the world of street gangs and the complex realities faced by both victims and those working to protect communities.
It was a sobering yet fascinating talk that sparked important conversations and left attendees with a deeper understanding of the social challenges happening right on our doorstep. A huge thank you to Jo for her honesty and to everyone who joined us for such a thought-provoking and inspiring evening.
Wisdom, Wit and Warmth: An Afternoon with Bel Mooney
On Wednesday 28 May 2025, Phoebe Welcome Leon WIZO hosted a wonderfully successful afternoon event featuring the inimitable Bel Mooney renowned journalist, author and much-loved Daily Mail Agony Aunt.
The event drew a fantastic crowd of 100 guests, all of whom were treated to a generous and beautifully presented afternoon tea courtesy of Daniel’s of Temple Fortune. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the afternoon raised an impressive £1,300 for WIZO UK’s vital work.
Bel captivated the room with her trademark honesty, humour and heart, sharing a wealth of personal stories and reflections that resonated deeply with both men and women in the audience. Her unwavering support for Israel and the Jewish people shone through as did her dedication, having travelled all the way from her home in Bath, at her own expense, to be with us.
A huge thank you to Bel for an inspiring and heartfelt afternoon and to everyone who made it such a success.
