Tree of Life

“Life without hope… is like a tree without leaves”

Celebrate Life

The WIZO Tree of Life continues to flourish, its wide branches sprouting hundreds of individually engraved silver and gold leaves.

Each leaf is donated to celebrate a joyous occasion, from a birth to a milestone anniversary. The name of each donor is recorded at WIZO’s Head Office.

This elegant and symbolic Tree of Life wall sculpture, created in burr maple wood, was commissioned for WIZO by Honorary President the late Leila Wynbourne MBE and was created by leading artist Dorothy Brook BA.

The Tree celebrates the life of Leila’s grandson David Wynbourne (1975-1979) and is mounted in the foyer at WIZO’s Head Office in London.

Leila worked with Dorothy Brook over a number of months to help bring the sculpture to fruition. It was unveiled by Lady Amélie Jakobovits in September 2004.

Funds raised from the Tree of Life continue to sponsor therapy for at-risk children attending WIZO schools and day care centres throughout Israel.

WIZO helps to protect children at risk

With thousands of children in Israel suffering from family neglect and violence, safeguarding young lives is a vital part of WIZO’s work throughout its 800 countrywide projects.

This essential social welfare work takes place at WIZO day care centres, therapeutic centres, guided playgroups for children and parents and at dedicated centres for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence in the family.  WIZO also operates a national hotline for the prevention of domestic violence and for children at risk.
