WIZO’s Legacy Garden to Support Vulnerable Communities and Future Generations

Last year WIZO unveiled its “The Garden of Dreams” project, as a new Legacy Garden at Beit Hakerem, Jerusalem. Designed as a living legacy, this innovative garden serves as a sanctuary of learning, therapy and healing for some of Israel’s most vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth, women and children from shelters and students at WIZO’s vocational high school.

This Legacy Garden features diverse areas, including an Educational Greenhouse, Meditation & Therapy Garden, Herb Garden, Rose Garden and Study Garden. Each space has been meticulously planned to foster healing, practical learning and sustainability. Beyond its therapeutic value, the Garden of Dreams aims to empower students through hands-on life skills, organic food production and waste reduction, enhancing their ability to contribute meaningfully to society.

The garden serves as a vital resource for experiential education, encouraging students to cultivate and harvest organic crops for their own meals, engage in therapeutic gardening and develop skills in environmental stewardship. These activities are an extension of WIZO’s commitment to building self-sufficiency and resilience among Israel’s youth, as well as supporting women and children in need.

Over the past six years, legacy gifts have funded over £1 million in life-changing WIZO projects, from providing shelters for domestic abuse survivors to supporting youth education programmes. Through the Legacy Garden, WIZO supporters can further this impact by purchasing rose bushes, herb plants, or garden furniture in their own names or in the names of loved ones from the next generation, fostering a living connection to WIZO’s mission for decades to come.

Legacy donations, a cornerstone of WIZO’s work, offer supporters a chance to make a difference that extends beyond their lifetimes.
